About Verve Lead
Verve Lead is a wellbeing platform for Christian leaders, built around the Health of a Christian Leader Assessment: a 125-question, research-validated assessment measuring three areas that keep a leader standing — psychological wellbeing, spiritual vitality and transformative leadership. Where most wellbeing tools measure the mind and stop there, the assessment was written and validated on Christian leaders specifically, and measures spiritual vitality alongside psychological health.
Once a leader has their results, Verve Lead follows up with a weekly article matched to whichever area scored lowest, a one-tap daily check-in on phone or watch, and the option to bring a mentor into the picture — with nothing shared until the leader chooses to share it.
Technology Stack
- API: Hono on Cloudflare Workers
- Database: Cloudflare D1 (SQLite at the edge), 45 tables via Drizzle ORM
- Web app: React Router v7 and Vite, deployed to Cloudflare Pages
- Native apps: SwiftUI for iOS and watchOS, sharing a common Swift package across both
- Auth: Passwordless magic-link sign-in, with password login as a fallback
- Payments: Stripe
- Testing: 450+ tests across the API (Vitest) and Swift codebases
The Challenge
Building this properly meant solving several problems at once:
- A 125-question assessment that needed to feel like one sitting, not a form nobody finishes
- Three separate audiences (individuals, mentors, organisations) sharing one data model without leaking access between them
- An organisation view that shows aggregated wellbeing trends without exposing any individual’s results
- A mentor relationship model where sharing is opt-in and revocable, not a default
- A daily check-in habit that needed to work from a phone or a watch, not just a browser tab
Our Approach
- Edge-native architecture: Hono on Cloudflare Workers and D1 keep the API fast globally, with no server to manage as the beta grows
- Native check-ins: SwiftUI apps for iPhone and Apple Watch share one codebase and one data layer with the web app, so a check-in logged on a watch shows up everywhere instantly
- Permission-scoped data model: 45 D1 tables managed through Drizzle, with organisation-level roles including a delegated duty-of-care permission for aggregated, never individual, visibility
- Built-in payments and auth: Stripe and passwordless magic-link sign-in from day one, rather than retrofitted later
- Test-first delivery: 450+ tests across the API and Swift codebases, so a beta running real assessments doesn’t lose anyone’s data to a regression
Key Features
- The assessment: 125 questions across 3 areas of health, completed in one sitting
- Weekly reading: One article a week, automatically matched to the area a leader’s own results flagged
- Daily check-in: A one-tap wellbeing reading from phone or watch, so a hard season gets noticed early
- Mentor relationships: Opt-in sharing, with a mentor seeing only what a leader has agreed to share
- Organisation dashboards: Aggregated wellbeing trends across a leader’s people, with individual results kept private
- Progress tracking: Leaders can retake the assessment as the season changes and compare results side by side
Results
Verve Lead is currently in beta ahead of full launch:
- 125-question assessment delivered end-to-end, from sign-up to a nine-page results report
- Native iOS and Apple Watch apps in TestFlight, sharing one Swift codebase with the web platform
- 450+ automated tests across the API and native codebases
- Multi-tenant organisation support with delegated, aggregated-only visibility for duty-of-care roles
Verve Lead shows what Platform21’s App & API Development service actually looks like in practice: a native app, a web app and the backend API behind both, built as one system rather than three separate projects handed to three separate teams.
